Victorian firm suffers huge wine spillage

January 27th, 2012

AuBJ — January 27 — Thousands of litres of wine were spilt after a door failed at a Victorian winery.

Close to 250,000 litres of wine poured out of a tank at Treasury Wine Estates’ Karadoc winery in the northwest of the state earlier this week.

No workers were injured in the spillage, which occurred on Monday evening, and the wine was captured using an effluent system on the premises.

Treasury Wine Estate corporate communications manager Sue Rana said: “There won’t be any impact at all really in terms of our production at that site; it is one of our largest sites and we do have a lot of wine produced there, so this loss won’t have a major impact.”

Rana added the incident, which was being investigated by WorkSafe, would not have a huge financial impact on the company.
